Pop Reverence from Rushton Phillips
Madonna - Pop Reverence is a graphic art series, released on April 28th, 2008, on the eve of the release of the pop icon's 11th full length studio album.
The project juxtaposes images of the "Queen of Pop" in displays of sexual innuendo and eroticism, with an icon of Catholicism; suggesting that contrary to the Church's catechism, the commercialization of mass media has provided pop culture with a platform to continually evolve and redefine what is status quo and moral for contemporary society.
