(via the Rumpus) Next month, “the author responsible for the worst sex scene of the year” will be named. The 2011 bad sex award shortlist is comprised of 12 authors, including Stephen King and Haruki Murakami. Literary Review’s annual Bad Sex in Fiction Award, which is in its 19th year, has a specific and laudable goal:
“The purpose of the prize is to draw attention to the crude, tasteless, often perfunctory use of redundant passages of sexual description in the modern novel and to discourage it.”
